Dodoma, Tanzania – December 30, 2023 – A man died after being hit by a freight train in Dodoma on Saturday morning. The man, identified as Laurent David, was a resident of the Ndejengwa neighborhood.
The accident occurred at around 12:00 p.m. on the central railway line. David was sitting on the tracks listening to music on his headphones when he did not hear the train’s horn.
One witness, Athumani Sweya, said he saw the train coming and sounded the horn, but David did not hear it. Sweya tried to push David off the tracks, but the train had already arrived and hit him.
David’s father, David Zabron, said his son left home at 11:00 a.m. and said he was going to the stadium to exercise.
The police are investigating the accident.
