Diamond Platnumz and Rema Fail to Secure Grammy Nominations: Fans Cry Foul

Despite their recent successes in winning major international awards, two of Africa’s biggest music artists, Diamond Platnumz and Rema, have failed to make the list of nominees for the 66th Grammy Awards, which were announced today, Friday, November 11.

Diamond is the Best African Act at the 2023 MTV European Music Awards and holds the record for being the first African and East African artist to win three MTV EMAs. He previously won two (2) awards for BEST AFRICAN ACT and BEST WORLDWIDE ACT (AFRICA/INDIA) in one night in 2015 at the MTV EMAs.

Rema, on the other hand, has the award for Best Song of the Year for her smash hit “Calm Down.” Remix featuring Selena Gomez at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.

With such great success, many African and Afropop music fans expected to see their artists on the list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards. However, this was not the case.

The failure of Diamond and Rema to make the list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards has sparked a heated debate on social media. Some fans believe that The African artists do not get enough attention from the Grammy organizers.

Others believe that The African artists should work harder to reach the international standards required to make the list of Grammy nominees.

However, it is important to recognize that the Grammys are one of the most prestigious awards in the world. Many of the world’s biggest music artists are nominated for these awards. Therefore, it is difficult for East African artists to make the list of nominees for these awards.

Despite their failure to make the list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards, Diamond and Rema are still two of the biggest music artists in the world. Their recent successes show that they are growing and becoming more famous around the world.
