Everton Punished with 10-Point Deduction for FFP Breach

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – 17 November, 2023

Everton Football Club has been docked 10 points by the Premier League for breaching the Profit and Sustainability Regulations, which are part of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

The punishment makes Everton the first Premier League team to be docked points for breaking FFP rules, and sees them drop from 14th to 19th place.

Everton believe that the decision is a violation of their sporting rights and are planning to appeal against the Premier League’s decision.

The Profit and Sustainability Regulations are designed to ensure that Premier League clubs are financially sustainable. The regulations prevent clubs from spending more money than they earn.

Everton believe that they met the regulations over the past three years, but the Premier League has decided that clubs should be assessed on a rolling five-year basis.

The 10-point penalty means that Everton need to win all of their remaining games in order to avoid relegation.

The Premier League’s decision has been met with mixed reactions. Some people believe that it is a fair punishment for clubs that overspend, while others believe that it is too harsh a punishment.

Everton’s appeal will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
