Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – December 22, 2023 – In a heartwarming display of support, CCM Secretary General Paul Makonda has followed through on his promise to donate TZS 10 million (approximately USD 4,300) to Tanzanian hip hop legend Professor Jay. Makonda’s visit to Professor Jay‘s home in Dar es Salaam wasn’t just about delivering on his word, though. He also surprised the musician with an additional TZS 10 million contribution from his brother, bringing the total donation to a generous TZS 20 million.
Professor Jay, whose real name is Joseph Haule, is a former Member of Parliament for the Mikumi constituency and a beloved figure in Tanzania’s music scene. He founded the Professor Jay Foundation, which provides educational and other assistance to those in need, with a focus on health and education.
During their conversation, Professor Jay shared the challenges he faces due to the long distance between his current home and Muhimbili Hospital. Makonda, acknowledging these difficulties, pledged to find a new home for Professor Jay in the Upanga neighborhood, taking care of all expenses.
