Nandy: Biography of a Pare Princess in the Music World

With her powerhouse vocals, captivating stage presence, and Pare heritage, Faustina Charles Mfinanga – known to the world as Nandy – has carved a unique place for herself in Tanzanian music. Born in 1992 in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, this talented artist’s journey began with humble yet passionate roots in her church choir.

Early Passion and Career Launch

Nandy’s musical interests ignited at the tender age of five. Her dedication to the KKKT Lutheran church choir provided the foundation for a lifelong love of music. She honed her skills throughout her education, leading the choir at Lomwe High School before attending the College of Business Education in Dar es Salaam.

Destiny arrived in the form of Ruge Mutahaba, CEO of Tanzania House of Talent. This pivotal meeting and the mentorship of producer Emma the Boy launched Nandy’s career with the breakout success of her debut single, “Nagusagusa”.

Breaking Boundaries and Achieving Recognition

In 2016, Nandy’s talent received wider recognition when she soared to the finals of the Tecno Own the Stage competition. This pan-African contest opened doors, sharpening her skills with guidance from industry giants like M.I. Abaga and Yemi Alade.

Her 2017 single, “One Day”, catapulted Nandy to new heights. The track’s popularity earned her a coveted spot on Coke Studio Africa and, a landmark win at the All Africa Music Awards as Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa.
