Simba & Yanga CAF Champions League Dreams Dashed

Tanzanian football clubs Simba and Yanga have both been eliminated from the African Champions League (CAFCL) in the quarterfinal stage. Simba were knocked out by Egypt’s Al Ahly with an aggregate score of 3-0, while Yanga fell to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw.

In Simba‘s match against Al Ahly held today in Egypt, Simba lost 2-0, bringing the total score to 3-0 after Al Ahly’s 1-0 victory in the first leg in Tanzania.

As for Yanga, they drew 0-0 with Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg played in South Africa, following a 0-0 tie in the first leg in Tanzania. The match went to penalties, and Yanga failed to convert two of their spot kicks, while Mamelodi scored all three.

This is a major blow to Tanzanian football, as both teams had high hopes of progressing further in the competition.
