Tanzania Draws with Zambia to Earn First Point at AFCON

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars earned their first point at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday, drawing 1-1 with Zambia.

Tanzania took the lead in the 11th minute through Simon Msuva, but Zambia equalized in the 88th minute through Daka.

Zambia played the final 10 minutes of the match with 10 men after Patson Daka was sent off for a second yellow card.

The draw leaves Tanzania in fourth place in Group B, with Morocco leading the group with four points, followed by Congo with two points.

Tanzania’s next match is against Morocco on Friday.

Analysis

Tanzania’s performance against Zambia was a vast improvement from their opening match against Morocco, which they lost 3-0.

Tanzania created several chances in the first half, and they were unlucky not to score more than one goal.

Zambia were the better team in the second half, but they were unable to break through Tanzania’s defense until the 88th minute.

Tanzania will be disappointed not to have won the match, but they will be encouraged by their performance.

They will need to improve their finishing if they want to qualify for the knockout stages, but they have shown that they are capable of competing with the best teams in Africa.
