Tanzania’s National Team Coach Amrouche Suspended by CAF for Eight Matches

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – January 19, 2024Tanzania‘s national football team coach, Adel Amrouche, has been suspended by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for eight matches after making controversial comments about the organization.

Amrouche was suspended after accusing CAF of favoring Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. He claimed that Morocco had been given preferential treatment in terms of match scheduling, refereeing, and playing time.

The suspension came just one day before Tanzania’s first AFCON match against Morocco. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Amrouche’s suspension will be a major blow to Tanzania’s hopes of advancing in the AFCON tournament. The team is currently in third place in Group F, behind Morocco and Zambia.

Tanzania will be led by assistant coaches Hemed Moroko and Juma Mgunda for its next two AFCON matches against Zambia and DR Congo.
