Yanga SC Extends Lead at the Top After 2-1 Win Over Simba SC

Simba SC suffered their second consecutive defeat in the NBC Premier League, losing the Kariakoo Derby against Yanga SC with a final score of 2-1. The match was played today, April 20th, 2024, at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Yanga SC started the game strong, grabbing an early lead in the 20th minute through a penalty converted by Aziz Ki. Just minutes later, Yanga SC doubled their advantage with a goal from Joseph Guede in the 38th minute.

Simba SC attempted a comeback in the second half, but their efforts proved fruitless. They managed a consolation goal in the 74th minute by Freddy Michael, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.

This marks Simba SC‘s second loss to Yanga SC this season. In their first encounter back in October 2023, Yanga SC emerged victorious with a 5-1 scoreline. These results put Yanga SC at the top of the NBC Premier League table, 12 points ahead of Simba SC.

Miguel Gamondi, coach of Yanga SC, expressed his delight at his team’s victory, believing they deserved the win.

“We played very well today and deserved to win this match. We’ve been working hard this week, and this result reflects our efforts,” said Gamondi.

Benchika, coach of Simba SC, acknowledged his team’s poor performance and stated they would use the coming days to rectify their mistakes.

“We didn’t play well today and deserve the loss. We’ll head back and work on our mistakes before the next match,” said Benchika.

Today’s match was a thrilling encounter that captivated a large audience. Yanga SC demonstrated their dominance and rightfully secured the win. Simba SC has a significant task ahead if they aim to claim the NBC Premier League title this season.
