Nigerian Fans Flood Instagram with Reports After Stars Go Empty-Handed

Nigerian fans are still reeling from the results of the Grammy Awards held on February 5th, 2024. All their highly anticipated nominees, including Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, and Asake, walked away without a single win. This has ignited a firestorm of outrage, with fans taking to the Grammy’s Instagram page to accuse the awards of robbery.

Davido, nominated in three categories, came away empty-handed. Burna Boy, with four nominations, suffered the same fate. This has infuriated Nigerian fans who firmly believe their artists deserved recognition.

Floods of angry comments have swarmed the Grammy’s Instagram, alleging stolen awards and blatant bias against Nigerian artists. Some fans have even gone as far as reporting the Grammy’s account, hoping to get it shut down.

This isn’t the first time African fans have expressed their discontent with the Grammys. Last year, South African fans erupted after their artist, Black Coffee, lost the Best Dance/Electronic Music Album award.

It seems a growing tension exists between the Grammy Awards and African artists. The Grammys need to address this issue head-on to ensure all artists have a fair shot at winning.

Do you think Nigerian fans are justified in their anger?

What should the Grammys do to resolve this issue?
