Tanzanian Minister Demotes Headmasters for Letting Students Sing and Dance to Zuchu’s ‘Honey’

The Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, has ordered the demotion of the headmasters of two schools in Tunduma District, Songwe Region, following a video that has been circulating on social media showing students and some teachers singing and dancing to the popular song “Honey” by Zuchu.

Minister Mkenda said that the act of children singing and dancing to the song violates the prevailing moral values in the country, as the content of the music was not appropriate for the students. He stressed that schools are a place of education and that teachers play a major role in maintaining discipline.

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, Mkenda instructed the Director of Tunduma Municipality, where the incident occurred, to remove the two headmasters from their positions.

The incident occurred on October 6, 2023, after a group went to provide assistance to the schools in Tunduma District, where two schools were involved.

Minister Mkenda said that the act of children singing and dancing to the song violates the prevailing moral values in the country, as the content of the music was not appropriate for the students.
